Returns to painting, beginning work on the near-monochrome great canvases of the De America cycle (1976-1977).
Exhibits at the “V Exposition internazionale de dessins originaux di Rijeka”, receiving the International Grand Prize, and at the 3rd “Norwegian International Print Biennale” at Friedrichstadt.
Together with his students, plans and installs a series of exhibitions entitled “Con Alberti per la Spagna”: for each venue a fresh hanging, a new ‘reinvention of space’ (Venice, Padua, Vigevano, Brescia, Bologna, Ferrara, Livorno, Florence and Rome).
