Rivoluzione Vedova
The catalogue, published for the exhibition of the same name (Mestre, M9 - Museo del ’900, 5 May - 26 November 2023), looks back over Vedova’s artistic production.
The catalogue includes some of the Venetian painter’s fundamental works, distinguished by a close connection to the dramatic events of his time, such as the Diario partigiano, Diario di Corea, Praga 1968, Chi brucia un libro brucia un uomo, oltre al grande ciclo ...in continuum, compenetrazioni/traslati ’87/’88 and the seven multiples of the Absurdes Berliner Tagebuch ’64.
The book looks back over the artist’s production with extraordinary illustrations and an essay looking more closely at Vedova’s life and work by Gabriella Belli. Further testimony is given by Fabrizio Gazzarri, an artist who began his teaching career as an assistant on Emilio Vedova’s Painting Course at the Venice Accademia di Belle Arti in 1980 and is now director of the archive and collection of the Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova; and by Anselm Kiefer, a painter known and esteemed by Vedova, whose works have been widely presented at the Fondazione. They briefly discuss Vedova and art with the curator, revealing new aspects of the Venetian artist’s painting. The context in which Vedova worked is presented in a masterly historical excursus by Andrea Jacchia.
The catalogue ends with a list of the works exhibited, a biography, a bibliography and a list of the artist’s exhibitions.
